Foal medicine

The clinic also specialises in the intensive medical care of foals. In addition to foal orthopaedics, which mainly deals with lameness and congenital and acquired limb deformities (see orthopaedics), - internal medicine and surgery are important areas of foal medicine.

Our experienced veterinarians, together with extensive diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, are available o provide intensive care for weak and premature foals.

Depending on the symptoms and clinical findings, ultrasound and/or X-ray examination can be a valuable addition to the clinical assessment. Many laboratory tests are performed directly in the clinic providing rapid results and allowing our team to respond immediately to the foal`s needs.

Infectious lung and/or joint diseases often require complex, prolonged and sometimes cost-intensive drug therapy.

Umbilical diseases and infections are treated conservatively or surgically when necessary. Colic in foals – such as meconium retention, foal diarrhoea, or stomach ulcers – can often be managed conservatively, while intestinal obstruction may require surgical intervention.

To safeguard both the foal and other patients, infectious foals are cared for in isolation stables, reducing the risk of disease transmission and protecting the foal`s health.
