Purchase investigation

The pre-purchase examination is a snapshot of the health status at the time of purchase. The clinical examination is the main focus, including a thorough orthopaedic and internal examination, as well as evaluation of the eyes and teeth.

Background information - such as sporting performance, previous illnesses, training status and age – is also taken into account allowing the veterinarian to form a comprehensive overall picture

For the radiological examination of the extremities 18 x-rays are taken as standard (22 x-rays in future) to identify potential risk findings in known critical locations prior to purchase.

Minor finding are evaluated in conjunction with the clinical examination, as their relevance may be limited and should be discussed individually with the buyer in the context of the purchase decision.

Additional X-ray examinations are often requested for the cervical spine and back, as findings in these areas can affect rideability and willingness to perform athletically.

Depending on the medical question, further imaging techniques - such as ultrasound or endoscopy - are available. Medication tests can also be performed at the client`s request to ensure that the examination results are not influenced by performance affecting substances.

Special laboratory tests may be required for the international export of horses, depending on the import regulations of the destination country.

The costs of the purchase inspection shall be borne by the client and should be agreed upon between the buyer and seller in advance.

Fees depend on the value of the horse, with risk surcharges applied for higher-priced animals. Please refer to the contract documents for more details.
