Regenerative therapy methods based on the body's own cells and substances (autologous) are becoming increasingly important in modern medicine.
The great advantage is the excellent tolerability - as only the body's own material (blood) is used, side effects are virtually eliminated. These therapies are also characterised by their broad applicability and very good availability.
Possible applications at a glance:
IRAP / Orthokine (interleukin-1 receptor antagonist)
IRAP primarily has an anti-inflammatory effect. A serum rich in IL-1 receptor antagonists is produced from the horse's blood through incubation and centrifugation. These antagonists specifically block the inflammatory messenger substance interleukin-1, a key inflammatory mediator involved in osteoarthritis and joint inflammation. Production takes at least 24 hours. From a single blood sample, several doses can be obtained, frozen and used as needed.
PRP / ACP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)
PRP focuses primarily on tissue regeneration. It is also obtained from the horse's blood but can be prepared within 15-30 minutes using centrifugation. The resulting platelet-rich plasma contains a high concentration of growth factors that stimulate healing processes in the tissue, promote collagen formation and stimulate the development of new blood vessels. PRP is commonly used for tendon and ligament injuries as well as joint disorders. The anti-inflammatory effect is less pronounced than that of IRAP, its regenerative properties are central to its therapeutic value.
Pro-Stride
Pro-Stride is a combined biological therapy procedure that integrates PRP with IRAP-like anti-inflammatory components in a single treatment. Blood components – including leukocytes, platelets, and anti-inflammatory proteins – are extracted and concentrated from the horse’s blood using centrifugation in a short procedure taking approximately 20-30 minutes. Pro-Stride requires only one treatment session and is particularly suitable for horses with osteoarthritis or inflammatory joint conditions where both inflammation control and stimulation of healing are desired.
PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin)
PRF is a further development of PRP therapy. In addition to platelets and leukocytes, it contains a fibrin-rich matrix that acts as a biological scaffold, releasing growth factors gradually over days to weeks. This prolonged release provides sustained regenerative stimulation, making PRF especially useful for chronic or difficult-to-heal injuries.
Stem cell therapy
Stem cells - whether autologous or allogeneic - offer promising treatment options for a wide range of conditions including tendon and ligament injuries, poorly healing or extensive wounds, and cartilage or bone defects.
At our clinic, autologous stem cell preparation is now possible on an outpatient basis and directly on site. We use modern systems that meet the highest standards of safety and sterility, allowing rapid and reliable processing tailored to the individual horse.
