Emergency Surgery

The Bargteheide Equine Clinic offers a 24/7 in-house emergency service.

365 days a year, our experienced team of veterinarians and veterinary nurses is available around the clock to provide emergency treatment and intensive care for your horse at our clinic.

If required, our well-trained and experienced team is able to perform surgical procedures at any time. Depending on the medical indication, surgery can be carried out either under general anesthesia or as standing surgery under local anesthesia.

Procedures regularly performed as part of our emergency service include, for example:

  • Surgical wound management under standing sedation or general anesthesia
  • Arthroscopic lavage of infected joints, tendon sheaths, or bursae (Arthroskopie)
  • Surgical fracture repair (Osteosynthesis)
  • Treatment of hoof abscesses or nail penetrations
  • Surgical management of eyelid injuries
  • Surgical treatment of urinary bladder rupture in foals

Whenever medically appropriate, we aim to perform surgical procedures during emergency service as standing surgeries. This allows many injuries to be treated under local anesthesia while the horse remains standing, thereby reducing anesthetic risk. If general anesthesia is unavoidable, for example for fracture repair or arthroscopic lavage of infected joints, we are able to provide safe and low-risk anesthesia even in emergency situations, thanks to our experienced personnel and modern anesthetic techniques Anaesthesia gewährleisten.
